I don't know if you remember the m0rtar & rocket attack November 11 1967.rocket hit about 5 ft. from back of hooch, but exploded out tail like a mortar. I have picture. blew a 2'3' hole through the cc wall. (we had not sandbagged the hooch yet. just moved in a week or two before).I remember my mattress smoldering from shrapnel. I always think of how lucky I was not being in my bed that night. EVERYONE HAVE A GREAT VETERANS DAY!!!!!

Happy July 4th to everyone out there. Our family is all healthy. Hope the virus has not affected anyone in the AVEL group. Sorry that the reunion had to be cancelled this year. The way the virus is ramping up again I myself think it was the right decision. I for one was seriously thinking of cancelling my attendance. I really had wanted to go this time. Really hope we can keep next year on the books. Until next time everyone stay safe, stay healthy and God Bless.

We hope the virus has not affected any of our AVEL Veterans.
We are well, staying home. It is amazing how many projects we are getting done around the house, now that the weather has turned warmer.
Just got the email from Jack about the reunion hotel. I for one am really looking forward to seeing you all.
Stay safe and stay well.

This is Vietnam Veterans Day. Special shout out to all of us Vietnam Veterans that are still able to communicate and let the world know that we are proud for we have done. we should be proud and do not let the past have any negative feelings. As we have put the past behind us (hopefully) and now we are in the Coronovirus Pendemic. Let's be positive and pray that this is soon behind us. I really would like to see more participation in this guest blog room. This was set up for all Vietnam veterans to have a voice. So let's hear from you. come on give us a comment.

Wanted to update you all on my progress. First let me thank you all for your prayers and reaching out to us during my surgery/hospital stay. That was the best medicine. I have progressed a lot in just two weeks. My stability issues are clearing up and I don't need to rely on a walker all the time. Still get a bit dizzy if I move my head to fast. My check up is in two weeks and am hoping for a good report.

The Reunion/Gathering was so much fun. Pima Air Center was amazing. Such a great group of folks that come to these get togethers. Yes Mike that was a really good green chili cheeseburger. Maybe Blake's Lotaburger will branch out to Seattle.
On a much more somber note Lynn "Rock" Rothrock passed away last night from Pulmonary Fibrosis. My sympathies to the Family and Friends. May you rest in peace Rock.

Another great reunion that just went by way to fast. I can't believe how fast they seem to go by. It sure was great to see everyone again.
I had my first Green Chile Cheeseburger, what a treat.
See you all at Virginia Beach.

Just got back late Sunday afternoon from the reunion. I had a great time, thanks to Jack for all his hard work in putting together this reunion and also to Warren for picking us up and dropping us off at the airport. The hotel was nice, had good rooms and had 3 good restaurants across the way.
The last reunion I attended was 6 years ago, so it was great to see old friends again. I was glad that Duane (Monty) was there, we did not see each other since we left in 1972.
I was there in Tucson for only four days, but had lots of fun and I sure everyone else did too. Great dinner on Saturday night and was glad that I attended this reunion.
Aloha,
Dennis

I served in US Army and was stationed in Phu Loi in 1967-68, with the 539th Transportation Battalion. I remember we used to get hit almost every night by rockets. It got to be so bad that they moved us out of our five-star tents into sandbag bunkers, We slept in those bunkers for three months. The big attraction at night in the bunkers was counting the rats, but it beat getting hit by rocket attacks every night.b6GP3w
