Iwas stationed at Ankhe with the 1st Cav. Div.. I was an OV-1 crew chief with the 11th. Gen. Sup. Avn. Co..The OV-1s were on the air strip and not parked with the choppers. The time I was there Jul 66 till Apr. 67. we had two avionics people. Would they have been also with an Avel outfit? Both men were from Hawaii. I don't remember them ever going anywhere to work on anything but our OV-1s.

As to the James Makin comment. He was KIA mar of 68 (his birthday). He was not a US citizen but here on a permanent visa so enlisted to avoid the infantry. He was a sports car mechanic from Charleston S. Carolina. His KIA date was also his birthday. If anyone remembers James my e-mail is tinyworm143@yahoo.com. I and James were in OV-1 mechanics AIT together in 65 at Ft. Rucker. I was a OV-1 crew chief with the 1st. Cav. Div. at Ankhe Jul. 66 till Apr.67.Any info on James would be greatly appreciated. WELCOME HOME Brothers. Ken Coe

I was stationed at Phu Loi with Bruce Carlton from June 1966 to June 1967. A Company, 1st aviation battalion, 1st Infantry Division (Big Red One). I worked as a UH-1 mechanic for 6 months and then flew crew chief for the final 6 months of my tour. Our company (as well as B Company) was located near the entrance to the Phu Loi base. I am not familiar with AVEL either. Where were they located on the base? A Company flew Huey slicks and gunships (Rebels). B Company flew observation aircraft if my memory serves me right. This AVEL site is great.

I was stationed at Phu loi with the Big Red One from June 1966/1967. MOS 67N20. Flew as a crew chief on a UH-1D slick for six Months. Worked in the hangar prior to that. Never heard of Avel until now. We were the Bulldogs, three flight groups. Champagne Flight, UH-1D's, Commancheros UH-1D's and the Rebels UH-1C's gunships.

Dennis, I think you were spraying for mosquitos. I sprayed the same stff from a Huey and it was just mosquito spray. The agent orange was "almost" always sprayed from an Air Forse C-123...and would kill all leaves in about 10-12 hours.... The main thing is that everyone needs to seek help from VA hospital. If your hospital is not giving you the right answers it may be worth a trip to another VA.
DO NOT hesitate to request help from your congressman and senator...They have staff members that work on this issue.Thank you for your service !!!!!!!!!!!!!!Roger

I just wanted to comment on Agent Orange. If you were ever sprayed by a foggy mist that smelled like Kerosene, it WAS Agent Orange. I was sprayed by a truck on two different occasions. At the time, we thought it was mosquito spray. It wasn't. I found out at my Comp and Pen exam.
This may have been mentioned already, but worth mentioning again. I have found that a lot of vets do not know how to file a VA claim, and some do not know what that is.
Welcome Home all,
Mork

Went to the 2016 City of Jacksonville Memorial Day Ceremony. All I could think about was the ceremony that Avel Vietnam did in 2013 and how great that was. What an unbelievable group that we have and how proud I am of our association. Look forward to seeing everybody in Chicago.
