I am pleased to be the first to wish all of my AVEL troopers, all veterans, and all who are currently serving, a really really really big MERRY CHRISTMAS.
Have a good one, a safe one, one filled with love and joy...you can take that as an order....if you want to.
Numchuck Charlie passes his regards also.

Hi Maureen. I saw the article and am very pleased and proud that Eric was so recognized and honored. He and Ron Smoker were my best friends and I was so thrilled to reconnect with him through this portal. I was so excited about the thought of seeing Eric again at the 2011 reunion and cannot express the bitter sadness and disappointment of losing him before that ever happened. Eric will forever dwell in a special place in my heart. Thank you so much for staying in touch with us and sharing the information with us.
Wishing all of Eric's family members a warm, joyous and healthy Christmas and a positive and happy 2015.
"Mase", (as Eric chose for me to be called.)

Jerry and Veterans,
Here is a link to an article in the ceremony for my dad Eric Haase. It was a was a heart warming event. I was a very proud daughter and my brothers were very proud as well. I know both mom and dad were shining down in us.

Maureen,
Good to hear from you again. I can't think of a more deserving Veteran that your Dad for Veteran of the Month. What Veterans Organization is performing the ceremony? Let us know when it is and keep in touch with us.

Hello Everyone.. I hope you are all doing well and had a nice thanksgiving holiday with your families. I am the daughter of Eric Haase who was a brother that was so passionate about this site. He passed away in 2011 and I know he was so happy to have found this site and made such great friends. I wanted to let you know that I nominated my father to be honored at a veterans ceremony a year after he passed and I am happy to say that he will be the honored veteran of the month this December. There is a very nice ceremony organized and I have been printing out pictures and gathering some of his service items to display at the reception. I also wanted you to know that I will be mentioning the AVEL site at the reception as I am hopeful the word will get out for other Vietnam Veterans.
Thank you for your service...
The Best Always,
Maureen

Sorry I'm late but Happy T-day to y'all! I don't remember what went on in Nov. 67 regarding T-day. I was with 2nd PLT AESCS in Tan Son Nhut at the time. We were billeted with ( read tents) the 56th Trans Co. at the time. I do remember their mess hall was not the best. However I worked nights and we scrounged around the base for our evening meals so I did not make use of the 56th's very often. The other meal of the day was usually PHO or something bought on the street. I think we worked that day as I remember we worked all holidays.
Good health to you all!

I hope everyone had a good and happy Thanksgiving. Lost our internet connection about mid Nov., Comcast got it reconnected on the 26th, went dead again on the 27th, TG day, just got it restored today. All cable problems from the pole to the house, all due to some shoddy work at some point in the past by a yardbird tech. who would have been transferred from an Avel unit to the infantry for work like that.
For some reason I still don't have email capability at the new email address I got after retiring, except on my phone. I will be checking this site regularly. I hope all are doing well and have a wonderful holiday season. Be talking to ya.

Jerry and others,, The Thanksgiving meal in 71 was a big meal in the 605th mess hall. The AVEL officers served on the serving line KgKjp3.....We had lots of turkey!! The mess hall was "saving 8 turkeys" and after a discussion with the mess SGT, we had them cooked up too. He was shorting the meal so he could trade for other food.....We did get two rockets fired into the post early Thanksgiving morning... That was a long time ago! 'Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving day !!!!!!!

I Remember Thanksgiving Day 1969 just like it was yesterday. I had the day off because it was my birthday. We got half day off because it was a holiday and I got the over half because it was my birthday. We had white table cloths and had turkey in the mess hall. However, the biggest thing was I could now vote, I was now twenty-one. What a deal, I could die for my country, drink but could not vote until that day. Thanksgiving Day was again my birthday this year and yes it did bring back old memories. May God bless all and may all have a safe and wonderful holiday season.

I do remember Thanksgiving Day at Camp Viking 1970(263rd)I had perimeter duty that day. I wish I could remember who the Mess Sgt was as he made sure each of us was relieved long enough to and enjoy the meal. What stood out about that day was he met each of us at the door as we came in to eat and wished us a Happy Thanksgiving.
Later in the day back in the bunker I wondered what my life would be like if I survived Vietnam.
Today, I think back to those days and the friendships made and gone since, the person I have become as a result of those days.
I never would have thought I would spend 40 yrs in Law Enforcement survive that, marry my high school girlfriend have 3 children and 7 grand kids. God has truly blessed me and my family.
I love this great city of Nashville Tenn where I live and I am still proud to be an American.
I wish to thank all of those I served with, I hope you are enjoying this day with your family and God Bless you for your service to this great country we live in. Happy Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody! I am trying to remember Thanksgiving at Avel in 1971 and coming up blank probably had guard duty with Gary Clark that night. I'm sure SGT Rusty Deen had a great meal served that day. Anybody would like to share their Thanksgiving memories from their time in Vietnam.
