Anybody else see The Amazing Race this last Sunday on CBS? I thought for sure there would have been comments made here about it. I just finished giving CBS my two cents worth about their using "the memorial of the downed B-52 plane" and then subjecting us to listening to their "Victory All is Well" anthem. What a disgrace and a show of disrespect to the men who lost their lives in that plane, to the 58,000 soldiers who lost their lives, and to those who came home who still to this day are dealing with the tragic memories and illnesses brought on by this war. For the Producers and writers of The Amazing Race and CBS to flaunt that to the American viewers was outrageous and disrespectful to each and every Vietnam Veteran.

Leon, it depends on who becomes President. Captain Avel and his sidekick Numchuck Charlie are elected I bet you are not only Mayor of Plieku but put in charge of all of Vietnam south of Hanoi. If Jack McCabe is elected he will make me Ambassador of Ireland and make Dale Garringer Secretary of State. Close call.

Ever stop to consider that ALL of us are better qualified to be president of the USA than the current occupier of that office? At least we all had military service and a job. Nice to know you qualify, ain't it? YOU COULD BE PRESIDENT!! Vat a country. You actually can fool most of the people most of the time.

This will be the posted obituary for my dad. I thought it right to post this on your site as many of you may not see it elsewhere. The date for the final service has not been set yet.

"SFC (Sergeant First Class) Edmound L. Fitzpatrick Sr. died suddenly of a heart attack in The Woodlands, TX February 9, 2013. He was born in Clarksburg, WV October 27,1936, the son of E. Otto and Hilda Fitzpatrick. He married Vera Jean Smith June 1, 1957. He is survived by his sons, Edmound Fitzpatrick, Jr. of Bethel, CT, Patrick Fitzpatrick of San Antonio, TX, and Douglas Fitzpatrick of The Woodlands, TX, as well as his 6 grandchildren. He was a fiercely loving husband and father.

He was a decorated Vietnam War veteran, serving his country for 20 years in the U.S. Military, Marine Corps and Army. He was also a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Freemason. His later years were spent battling the effects of Agent Orange to which he was exposed during his tours of duty in Vietnam (’68-’69; ’70-’71.)

He will be cremated and laid to rest with military honors beside his wife of 53 years in the Houston Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Cards can be sent to: 616 Orangewood Dr. Conroe, TX 77302."

Top Fitzpatrick asked me to pass this on to all Avel/Avionics Veterans: "IF YOU DON'T GO TO THE AVEL REUNION AND SEE WHAT'S LEFT OF YOUR BUDDIES, YOU'RE A FREAKIN YARD BIRD!!"

That's all.

I was sad to hear the passing of Top, SFC Ed Fitzpatrick. I worked with him upstairs on the 2nd floor. He was a great guy, tough and mean on the outside, but also a good friend. I believe he treated everyone fairly, he demanded respect from you, but also respected you as a fellow soldier.
The last time I saw him was when he left in 71 or 72. He was replaced for a short time by SSGT Willis, and then by SFC Bentz.
Rest in peace, Top, you will be missed.

Rest In Peace, Ed. I didn't know you in Phu Loi, but I got to know you quite well in our almost daily exchange of emails, and I will miss you and the great humor you shared. I rate you as the warm hearted OLD FART TEDDY BEAR who was a hell of a man...my kind of man for sure. Give em hell when they deserve it and be their friend when they earn it. See if you can get them to straighten ranks in heaven, will you? Adios, Amigo.

Everyone that knew my dad said one of two things about him:
Hard-a$$ son of a b****
Grumbly old fart of a teddy bear.

For those he trusted enough to be close to him though, you knew there was nothing he wouldn't do for you. His heart was as big as the state where he made his final home.

Top Fitzpatrick. A great guy. I can't remember anyone who did not like and respect him. Even Baker. We will miss you Top. I am sorry that I was not able to see him again since 1971. Time grows short guys. Get to a reunion and reconnect. We lose a couple guys every year. Rest in peace Top. You will be missed.
