A PRAYER FOR THE WALL
Abba Father, Almighty. Holy, Creator God.
Lord, we have come here to this place today to remember those whose names appear on this wall; Soldiers of the Vietnam war who died in the defense of this great nation and it's ideals of democracy and freedom. Freedom, as we know, is not free, it is bought with a price and for these whose names appear on this wall it was the ultimate price; the ultimate sacrifice. Lord, we know that the pain of that great sacrifice is felt hardest by the families of these fallen ones, and so Lord we pray for comfort and peace for these families. Lord, we beseech thee to be with them even now after all these many years of having to deal with the loss of their loved ones. May they know that their beloved soldier did not die in vain and that they have the undying gratitude and appreciation of their country.
Yet, Lord, we who are here now feel that sense of loss as well; the loss of a fellow soldier; a brother in arms; one for whom the bugle sounds. Lord give us also, we pray, a sense of comfort and peace, yet never forgetting that the freedoms we enjoy in these United States of America are in a great part due to the sacrifice of these brave fallen.
Lord God, as we are here at this Vietnam Memorial today we also remember the citizens and soldiers who fought in other conflicts of our great land. From the Revolutionary War in the very beginning to the current struggles in the Middle East and Afghanistan. We give thanks for all of those who have served, and to You Lord for your continual protection of this country and our way of life.
Lord we pray especially now for those soldiers who are currently involved in active combat areas. Oh Lord, watch over and protect them as they go about their duties. We pray that you would give them wisdom in their areas of responsibility, physical strength in fulfilling their duties, your spiritual strength to uphold them, brave hearts in times of battle and especially thy hand of protection over them as they serve. Father God I pray that you would draw many of them unto Jesus Christ for Salvation and the peace that passes all understanding.
Father, we thank you for the many blessings you have brought upon this nation and the many times you have helped up through our struggles; struggles of war, financial disarray, racial unrest, moral decay, crime, drug abuse and other issues that plague this country today. Lord there are men who bring these troubles to us but as you tell us in EPHESIANS 6:12 'For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual and physical battles to come. Help us as we battle against the Evil One; Keep us ever vigilant and preserve us Oh Lord as Truly One Nation Under God, Indivisible with Liberty and Justice for all.
It is in the Mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior that we pray these things.
